Coronation Day Parade

The Coronation Day parade took place in Ottawa, Ontario on 2 June, 1953. Most of the airwomen who opened Foymount and Falconbridge spent the spring of 1953 at Uplands practising to march in this parade. It was a sweltering hot summer day and we were wearing our dress blues (winter uniform). We were on our feet all day, either marching or standing on Parliament Hill. We were very proud, as unlike the Army and the RCMP, not one of the Air Force girls keeled over. Later, we were given little slips of paper with the words "one hot dog" written on them - which meant, in fact, a cold beer when we finally made it back to the base canteen. - Courtesy of Iola Little (now Whiteside)
