The 17 RD radar compex was located north of St. John's on the coast at Flat Rock. This complex served as an "Ground Controlled Intercept" (GCI) unit.

We understand that the 14 RD radar complex at St. John's was supposedly within "walking distance" of 17 RD. This complex served as a "Early Warning" radar station.

We further understand that both the 17 RD and the 14 RD radar stations shared some common buildings such as administration, barracks and a Mess Hall. However, these units had separate Operations sites.
